Dr. Doroteo M. Salazar awarded as Filipino Outstanding Civil Engineer

For his significant contributions to the Civil Engineering profession and for his outstanding engineering practice throughout the country during the last four decades, Dr. Doroteo M. Salazar, SCSIT President Emeritus, was awarded one of the 75 Filipino Outstanding Civil Engineers by the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE).

The prestigious award was conferred during the PICE Diamond Anniversary Gala Night Celebration held last November 8, 2012 at the Luzon-Visayas Ballroom of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel, CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City, Metro Manila.

“As a working student during my college days, I took pride in receiving the award for it symbolizes hope for all poor, but hardworking and deserving students. This award is for every poor student who, like me, worked hard to claim his share in this competitive world”, Dr. Salazar said.

Since early 70′s Engineer Salazar took the helm in civil engineering profession with SALAZAR CONSTRUCTION, a triple A grade construction firm, building cornerstone projects throughout the country. Equally successful was his SALAZAR ENGINEERING REVIEW CENTER, which since early 60′s has produced topnotchers in Engineering Board Examinations for several decades.

“That award [FOCE award] is exceptional because among the 1,500 Civil Engineers living in the country only 75 were chosen to be given an award from the PICE as a Filipino Outstanding Civil Engineers of the century. Of these 75, only 40 are alive. I’ve been a member of PICE for almost 42 years. It’s an honor to receive this special award,” Dr. Salazar said.

Furthermore, he added that he became a life time and honorary member of the PICE because of his academic excellence and professional practices as Civil Engineer.

Dr. Salazar obtained his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (SUMA CUM LAUDE), and Geodetic Engineering (SUMA CUM LAUDE)from Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) in 1958, and 1959 respectively. He ranked 2nd Placer in Civil Engineering, and 1st Placer in Geodetic Engineering Board Examination. For these accomplishments, Cebu Institute of Technology crowned him, “King of Engineers”, a record which up to present time has not been surpassed by anyone at CIT.

The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) gave honor to 75 Filipino Outstanding Civil Engineers (75 FOCEs) as part of the celebration of the 75th Founding Anniversary of PICE.
