Weaving diverse cultures through dance and music, the SCSIT Salazar Singing Ambassadors (SSA) and Sidlak Dance Troupe join Gabii sa Kabilin 2024.
The SCSIT performers brought the beauty of Chinese culture and long-standing historical ties between the Filipino and Chinese communities through dance and song as they were invited to perform at the Gabii sa Kabilin, February 19, 2024, at Fo Guang Shan Chu Un Temple, a Buddhist temple located on top of a hill in Rama Avenue, Cebu City. They welcomed guests who came to enjoy the temple’s panoramic vistas and experience the beauty of Chinese culture with a Chinese dance and songs such as Namo, Mo Li Hua, and Love and Peace, as well as one Buddhist song, the Noble Path, and two modern songs, Rosas Pandan and Nasa Iyo na Ang Lahat.
Gabii sa Kabilin is a program established by RAFI in 2007 with the aim to preserve Cebu’s unique culture and traditions. This year’s Gabii sa Kabilin theme, “Padayon,” emphasizes why the Cebuano race, spirit, and personality have persevered and thrived in the face of several crises and hardships. This also highlights local museums, galleries, and cultural sites.
Salazar Sidlak Dance Troupe is under the tutelage of Mr. George Villamor, while Mr. Barret Richards, an esteemed and skilled mentor, leads the Salazar Singing Ambassadors with Mr. Marjun Marigomen, his assistant conductor.
The whole Salazarian community takes immense pride in nurturing talented individuals who never fail to showcase their talent in various fields. Indeed, the Gabii sa Kabilin is a great opportunity, allowing the Salazarians to showcase the burning passion within them. Special thanks to Master You Huii, who is in charge of Foguang Shan Cebu, and to Mr. Rio Delizo, who is in charge of Guang Ming College Cebu.
